Sajnu of Mandi

Sajnu of Mandi is an artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Metropolitan Museum of Art. Sajnu of Mandi was born in Kangra.

Sajnu of Mandi was a court artist who painted gods so alive they could step off the page—literally: one of his Vishnus has Garuda’s feathers brushing the frame as if caught mid-flap. He worked in the 1810s, turning opaque mythology into scenes you can almost overhear, the way a neighbor’s parrot squawks through a courtyard wall. Hunt down the 1815 “Vishnu on Garuda” in the app’s scroll and tilt your phone: the gilt cracks in the paint look like lightning splitting the sky.
