Polish portrait painter working in the 1780s, Konstanty Aleksandrowicz put the faces of powerful people on canvas. His brush traced the features of Jan Zamoyski, the Grand Hetman of the Crown, in 1783. The next year it caught a Lady whose name is lost. In 1786 he twice recorded the last king of Poland, Stanisław August Poniatowski, and the flamboyant Voivode Karol Stanisław Radziwiłł “Panie Kochanku.” Each portrait stays in the sitter’s sober gaze and the fashion of the age. Tap Portrait of Jan Zamoyski to meet a man who shaped the nation’s wars.
