This painting is a reproduction of a ceiling panel from Ajanta Cave 1, designed to mimic the appearance of a wooden-beamed ceiling. The composition is divided into distinct sections, each featuring different motifs such as floral arrangements, fruit clusters, a goose, and two figures resembling elves, separated by geometric beam-like lines. The central beam includes an unfinished fret pattern resembling European or Greek designs. Produced between 1872 and 1885 by John Griffiths and seven Indian students, it is one of roughly 300 copies created to document the ancient cave paintings, which date from the 1st century BC to AD 480 and depict Buddhist Jataka tales.
