About this work

The artist used fine lines to create shadows and texture, making the face look almost three-dimensional.

This is a black-and-white portrait of an older man with a thick beard and curly hair. His face is turned slightly to the side, showing deep lines and a serious expression. The image is framed like a bust on a pedestal, with Latin words carved into it.

The words around the image say he died in 1669 at age 75, but this print was made later. The artist used fine lines to create shadows and texture, making the face look almost three-dimensional.
