Pieter Brueghel the Younger, active in the late 16th and early 17th centuries, was known for replicating his father’s compositions and producing original devotional images. This particular piece, attributed to his hand, entered the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp’s holdings, where it remains part of the institution’s representation of Flemish religious painting from the period.
