Artist
Michel Dorigny

French, 1617–1663
Michel Dorigny was a French Baroque artist. 6 works are cataloged here, principally at Cleveland Museum of Art. Michel Dorigny was born in Saint-Quentin.
A French painter and engraver from the mid-1600s, he turned biblical and mythological scenes into dramatic, candlelit dramas. Two works here show that style clearly: *Hagar and the Angel* (1645), where a lone figure kneels in a golden glow, and *Apollo and the Muses* (1640), crowded with glowing robes and lyres. See how the light seems to push forward from the dark—tap *Hagar and the Angel* to step right into the glow.
