Pissarro employs soft, loosely applied brushstrokes and a muted tonal range to convey the quiet atmosphere of the scene. The sky is rendered in gradated greys, while the distant trees and open field recede with minimal detail, creating a sense of calm through subtle tonal modulation rather than overt texture.

Created during Pissarro’s mature period, the painting reflects his continued interest in peasant life after his earlier involvement with Impressionism and later experiments with Neo‑Impressionism. It entered the National Museum of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires as part of the museum’s early 20th‑century acquisitions of European modern art.

At the time of its execution, Pissarro was revisiting themes of rural labor that had occupied him since the 1860s, while also absorbing influences from his collaborations with Seurat and Signac. The work therefore bridges his Impressionist roots with the pointillist techniques he explored alongside his Neo‑Impressionist peers.
