Icoana este pictată "în oglindă" pe un suport de sticlă de formă dreptunghiulară în ax orizontal. Tema iconografică este "Cina cea de taină", în cadrul căreia are loc instituirea celei mai importante taine a bisericii, Sfânta Euharistie. Iisus se află în centrul icoanei, în spatele mesei dreptunghiulare,(acest tip de compoziție este de influență apuseană, în canoanele bizantine masa este semicirculară, cea dreptungiulară apare în Apus în sec XIII). Isus le dă ucenicilor pâinea(aici seamănă mai mult cu împărtășania catolică), instituind astfel Sfânta Taină : "Luați, mâncați, acesta este trupul Meu care se frânge pentru voi spre iertarea păcatelor". În mâna cealaltă ține Potirul din care "El a dat Sfinților ucenici zicând:"Beți dintru acesta toți, acesta este sângele Meu, al Legii celei noi…" Expresia feței este sobră, mai detașată decât a ucenicilor.Masa este încărcată cu obiecte care nu apar de obicei. Pe lângă două coșuri cu pâini rotunde sunt farfurii, cuțite, furculițe,niște rădăcinoase(confuzie cu sfânta copie). Apostolii sunt grupați în jurul mesei, șase de o parte și șase de cealaltă, incluzîndu-l și pe Iuda,cel care îl va vinde pe Hristos.În dreapta lui Isus, la loc de cinste, ucenicul Ioan, cel mai tânăr dintre apostoli.. Fețele ucenicilor, exprimă mirare, tulburare, tristețe, concentrare. Ucenicii reprezentanți fără aureole, cu picioarele goale. Veșmintele sunt pictate în purpuriu și verde deschis, cu excepția lui Isus care are o mantie bleumarin. Interiorul este redat prin amănunte numeroase, geamuri cu cercevele, orange, ziduri văruite cu albastru ,coloane cu capitel, un cerdac, draperii purpurii ,o candelă( sus, stânga). Desenul este bogat în linii și amănunte. Faldurile realizate din linii. Compoziția este echilibrată, culorile intense. Rama este pictată în verde deschis, ornamentată cu flori roșii și frunze verde închis.
