After its completion, the painting entered private collections before being acquired by the Statens Museum for Kunst, Denmark’s national gallery. Its presence there reflects the museum’s interest in Dutch marine painting and provides a reference point for the influence of the Bamboccianti circle, of which Lingelbach was a member during his time in Rome.
