Figures are rendered with delicate linear outlines and stylised drapery, while the arch-like frame and patterned background echo the ornamental aesthetics of early 14th‑century Italian panel painting.

Originally painted for a private chapel or ecclesiastical setting, the panel entered the collection of the Gemäldegalerie, Berlin, in the early 20th century. Its attribution to the Master of the Palazzo Venezia Madonna stems from stylistic parallels with other works linked to that workshop in Rome.

The depiction follows a long-standing iconographic tradition of the Virgin and Child flanked by saints, a motif common in medieval devotional art. The arrangement of the saints in a triangular formation reflects contemporary theological emphasis on the intercessory role of saints surrounding the divine pair.
