Buhot employed a traditional stone lithograph as the base, then enhanced it through scraping, ink application, crayon drawing, and stumping. These interventions produce varied textures that resemble an unfinished sketch, while the contrast of deep blacks and delicate tonal washes creates depth in the lampposts, rooftops, and street surface.

Created in 1892, the print belongs to the later phase of Buhot’s career, when he explored mixed‑media approaches within the printmaking medium. It has circulated among private collections and museum holdings that focus on French printmaking of the Belle Époque, reflecting the artist’s interest in urban scenes and experimental surface treatment.
