Silvestre employs the Rococo palette of luminous colors and delicate brushwork, allowing the fabrics to shimmer against the subdued background. The artist’s handling of light creates subtle modeling on the figure’s face and clothing, while the smooth rendering of the wig and medal reflects the period’s preference for elegance over stark realism.

Executed while Silvestre served as court painter to Augustus II of Poland, the portrait entered the collection of the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister in Dresden, where it remains on display. Its acquisition reflects the museum’s focus on works by artists connected to the Saxon court during the early 1700s.

The painting belongs to the broader trend of courtly portraiture that flourished in Dresden under the Electorate of Saxony.
