Artist
Netherlandish 15th Century

1400–1499
Netherlandish 15th Century was a Renaissance artist. 26 works are cataloged here, principally at National Gallery of Art.
These prints show Christ’s suffering in bold, hand-colored images from 15th-century Northern Europe. Look at *The Crucifixion* with its dark browns and greens pressed into metal, or *Christ as the Man of Sorrows* glowing in red and violet inside a torn letter “o.” The rough edges of the vellum and bright inks make the scenes feel urgent, like a book you can almost hold. Tap *The Lamentation* next to see another side of the story in plain black lines.
