Tattarescu employs a muted palette and soft, almost diffused edges, giving the figure a sense of immediacy while hinting at movement in the surrounding space. This approach, unusual for Romanian painting at the time, aligns the work with broader realist tendencies that favored naturalistic observation over idealized representation.

Since its completion, the canvas has remained in public hands, entering the Museum of Ethnography’s holdings where it is displayed among artifacts of folk culture. Its acquisition reflects the institution’s mission to document the visual aspects of Romanian rural heritage alongside material objects.

The painting emerges at a moment when Romanian artists were negotiating between neoclassical training and the rising influence of realism across Europe.
