This watercolour drawing, titled *Bab Zooayleh*, was created by William Henry Bartlett during his visit to Egypt in August and September 1845. It was later published in Bartlett’s *Nile Boat* (1850, 2nd edition) as an engraving by G. Dodd. The work was acquired from Maas in August 1967 for £4, according to Rodney Searight’s records, and was possibly included in Bartlett’s studio sale before being purchased by Martineau in 1855.
