Rendered in oil, the painting displays the delicate brushwork and pastel palette typical of Rococo, yet with a heightened realism in the figures’ faces and fabrics. Textural details—such as the sheen of silk robes, the polished wood floor, and the patterned rug—are achieved through layered glazing, giving depth to the interior space.

Created near the end of González Velázquez’s career, the canvas entered the Museo del Prado’s holdings in the 19th century as part of the national collection of Spanish art. Its acquisition reflects the museum’s effort to preserve works that illustrate Spain’s religious and diplomatic narratives during the Enlightenment era.
