Dutch, 1729–1817

Gabriel, ca.1729-1817 Beranger was a Dutch Rococo painting artist. 35 works are cataloged here, principally at Royal Irish Academy. Gabriel, ca.1729-1817 Beranger was born in Rotterdam.

Gabriel Beranger made watercolors of Dublin and its surroundings in the late 1700s. He painted the Round Tower of St Michael of Pole, the Grand Canal between first bridge and lock, and old castles like Rabuck and Rathgar. He also recorded ancient sites such as Fan-mac-cools Quoit, a cromlech eight miles from the city. These sheets give a quiet, early record of Irish landscapes and ruins. Tap the Grand Canal view to step into an 18th-century waterway scene.
